Operates an Aboriginal Health Access Centre that provides health care services including:

• Assistance with medical devices
• Completion of medical and treatment forms

• Prenatal and postnatal care

Health care team consists of a Physician, Nurse Practitioners, Mental Health Counselor, Diabetes Educator, Registered Dietitian, Registered Physiotherapist, and a Registered Practical Nurse

• Offers non-emergency and minor care through Telemedicine service
• Provides services on a first-come first-served basis

DOES NOT provide the following:

• Refills on sedatives or narcotics
• Wart removal
• Injections
• Sutures or suture removal
• Casting

• Coordinates health care services through the Margaret Gray Nursing Station; health team consists of three community health nurses, home-care nurse and a community health representative
• Provides physician consultations one week per month through a visiting physician from Sioux Lookout
• Provides health awareness and counselling, education and prevention workshops especially in the areas of diabetes and alcohol/drug abuse
• Coordinates clinics/workshops in areas that may include Diabetes, Immunization, Sexual Health and Communicable Diseases
• Provides mental health services including counselling
• Coordinates visits from dentists and optometrists twice per year

Addresses individual health care needs by providing:

• Advocacy on behalf of individual with other health professionals
• Coordination of one-on-one pre-natal care with the community health nurse
• Home visits to the sick, elderly, new mothers and persons with health care needs
• Assistance with coordinating local and long distance travel arrangements for medical appointments

Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN)

• Provides access to specialized medical care using videoconferencing and other tele-diagnostic equipment
• Allows specialists to remotely examine and prescribe treatments to patients in their home communities
• Reduces the need to travel to receive care

• Provides programs and services that promote physical and mental health for community members from children to elders
• Participates in teaching with a regular rotation of medical students and residents from Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM)
• Provides snacks, transportation and childcare for all programs
• Provides a monthly calendar with listing of all programs
• Coordinates an Ontario Telemedicine Network site

Focuses on direct, clinical services including:

• Consultations with family physicians and visiting professionals
• Education on health issues such as diabetes, pre/post natal health, nutrition, sexual health etc

Effective 11 pm, Saturday, April 4, 2020 -- Thessalon Hospital has been CLOSED as a precautionary measure in support of patient and health care worker safety - Emergency services will be redirected to North Shore Health Network's Blind River or Richards Landing - Matthews sites -- Closure of Thessalon Hospital is expected to last 3-5 days and will be evaluated on an ongoing basis
