Searching for Child Abuse Services

• Provides individualized 24 hour emergency service to victims and survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence
• Provides emergency medical assessment and treatment

Provides initial emergency care only with the patient's informed consent, and may include all or part of the following:

• Assessment and treatment of injuries
• Testing/treatment/prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STI), including HIV
• Emergency contraceptives
• Reassurance and emotional support
• Collection of forensic evidence including photographs
• Risk assessment and safety planning
• Referral for medical follow-up
• Referral to appropriate social agencies
• Referral to shelter and or other relevant community resources
• Police involvement, at victims request
• Storage of forensic evidence for up to six months if the patient is uncertain about involving the authorities

• Offers on-site early intervention and crisis intervention
• Provides needs assessment, safety planning and referrals to community services
• Offers enhanced support for vulnerable victims
• Provides assistance with applications to VQRP+

Victim Quick Response Program+ (VQRP+)

Provides assistance with emergency expenses related to the incident, including:

• home safety
• accommodation
• meals
• transportation
• basic necessities
• dependent care costs
• counselling
• traditional Indigenous health services
• cellular phones
• vision care
• dental care
• aids for victims with disabilities
• interpretation services
• crime scene cleanup
• government/medical documents
• funeral expenses

Additional assistance for victims of human trafficking includes:

• storage locker
• tattoo removal
• treatment at a recovery facility

Note: No direct reimbursement to victims for above supports

Financial support also available for:

• victims who sustained serious physical injuries during a crime
• parents of child homicide victims
• spouses of homicide victims

Offers confidential mental health and addiction services to individuals 16 years of age and older

Services include:

• Mental Health Counselling and Treatment
• Substance Abuse/Addictions Assessment and Treatment
• Intensive Case Management
• Psychiatric consultation
• Crisis Intervention
• Walk in Clinic

Walk In Clinic

• Offers a single session of counselling to address mental health or substance abuse concerns
• Offered to individuals 16 years of age and older who are not yet ready for formal mental health and/or addiction services

Delivers child care and protection services, and family support services to community members

• Acts as a family and children's services liaison between Nipissing First Nation and the Children's Aid Societies from any location
• Offers family and child support with home visiting, office visits and court attendance with child welfare issues within the district

Foster Care

Provides the following services to families in the system:

• Advocacy
• Case management
• Access services
• Community resources
• Referrals to other agencies and programs
• Remains in contact with the family until services are accessed or until needed services are accessed and family can advocate for themselves
• Provides assistance in the recruitment of new foster families within the community
• Endeavours to keep children within their home communities

Prevention Services

• Provides programs and services to children and youth to enhance their well being, including life skills mentoring, recreational activities, social activities and healthy lifestyles workshops
• Provides educational programs and resources to parents and families to strengthen family units

After School Kids Social

• Provides a safe and healthy environment for children to attend after school until parents arrive home from work

Provides voluntary support and services to assist individuals who are struggling with mental health issues and/or addictions issues

Operates as a program under the Healing and Wellness Branch

• Developed as a new program aimed at supporting healthy and whole Métis families
• Works to reduce family violence, the number of youth involved in the justice system and the number of children in care
• Focus is on providing direct one-on-one client services and educational resources and family wellness planning

Services provided can include but are not limited to the following:

• After school safe places and homework clubs
• Assistance in navigating the community support system
• Assisting children and youth to foster self-identity and to develop life skills
• Court-related supports
• Empowering parents to be their children's best advocates
• Ensuring families have their basic needs met
• Guidance for building healthy relationships and raising awareness of personal safety issues
• Peer support for youth involved in justice and correction issues
• Referrals for employment and training programs
• Supports for children and youth who have experienced or witnessed violence
• Supports for Métis youth to stay in school
• Support in case meetings and conferencing

• Provides urban Indigenous at-risk youth with the tools, support, and healthy activities needed to make healthy choices
• Works with youth to build upon and foster their ability to make healthy choices

Offers sexual health counselling on the following topics:

• Contraception methods including abstinence
• Healthy relationships
• Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
• Pregancy options including abortion referral
• Personal responsibility and decision making

COVID19 Update: Court case backlog -- clients may experience difficulties contacting local offices and should leave a message with return phone number; VWAP staff will return voicemail as soon as possible

• Provides information and assistance to support participation in the criminal court process
• Services begin once police have laid charges and continue until the court case is over

Offers:

• Case-specific information (court dates, bail conditions)
• Court preparation
• Needs assessment
• Emotional support
• Crisis intervention
• Referrals to community agencies

Vulnerable Victims and Family Fund

Provides financial and court-based supports to enable victims of crime and families of homicide victims to attend court, including:

• Travel arrangements and expenses
• Language interpretation
• Real-time captioning or other equipment for victims with disabilities

• Provides timely access to family and community primary health care
• Provides access to other health care professionals within and outside of the Family Health Team, such as a dietitian and a mental health counsellor
• Coordinates documentation if patient receives care from a member of the team
• Administers various health programs
• Offers an after-hours walk-in clinic

Offers primary health care services including but not limited to:

• Chronic disease education and prevention
• Disease management
• Health promotion
• Palliative care
• Rehabilitation

Telephone Health Advisory Service

• Provides access to a registered nurse that provides advice about urgent health care concerns
• Offers the opportunity to have family doctor receive a written summary of the call

• Provides free legal advice and assistance to low income earners
• Offers representation in a court or at a tribunal, such as the Social Benefits Tribunal or the Landlord and Tenant Board
• Assists with preparing documents, such as an application to the Landlord and Tenant Board

Helps with the following areas:

• Employment Insurance Law
• Canada Pension Plan (CPP and CPP Disability)
• Housing law for tenants and co-op members only
• Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
• Ontario Works (OW)
