Establishes and undertakes programs designed to further the conservation, restoration, development and management of renewable natural resources, including:

Permits and Regulations

• Provides land use and resource management planning input and review
• Monitors development associated with related legislation

Water Management

• Ensures that homes and people are protected from the threats of flooding and erosion

Lake Laurentian Environmental Education

• Provides environmental education programs to classes from JK to Grade 12 primarily in the outdoors at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area
• Offers a wilderness setting, a man-made lake and pond, scenic lookouts, a self guided nature trail, numerous wetland areas, hiking trails, bird watching areas, and snow shoeing and cross-country ski trails in winter
• Provides a multipurpose Nature Chalet

Camp Bitobig

• Offers a week-long conservation day camp which gives children an appreciation of the natural environment and an opportunity to participate in many outdoor activities
• Wilderness experience provides swimming, canoeing, wilderness survival, hikes, games and crafts
• Outdoor Explorer provides activities such as plant and animal studies, nature hikes and talks, pond study, canoeing, swimming and many more fun games and recreational activities

Operates a drop-in centre for community youth and seniors

• Provides social, recreational, and therapeutic activities for older adults and adults with disabilities in a group setting during the day
• Serves as respite for family caregivers
• Provides escort and transportation to other First Nation communities to attend elders functions
• Coordinates a Meals on Wheels program for Mnaamodzawin Health Services
• Hosts activities and events for youth
• Includes a large kitchen and living room area

Activities can include:

• Coffee and socialization
• Craft making
• Exercise programs on individual basis
• Group exercise programs such as urban poling and VON Canada Smart Program Exercises
• Lunch & Learn sessions on monthly basis with a variety of topics and presenters
• Television viewing with others

• Offers services and support to promote the youth in the community
• Acts as a voice for the youth and endeavours to improve communication amongst the youth
• Serves as a link between the youth and the government of the community
• Supports youth in planning and leading community events
• Coordinates regular activities and events for the children and youth of the community, often at the Shawanosowe School gym and the Seven Fires Youth & Elders Centre
• Encourages attendance at area youth workshops and conferences
• Plans and supervises Right To Play Fun nights for younger children and Right To Play Program activities for youth

Activities and services can include but are not limited to:

• Craft making sessions
• Games
• Movie nights
• Outdoor winter/summer events such as Shiver Fest
• Sports/recreation events such as basketball and hockey
• Skating Nights
• Youth drop-in nights

Oversees the operations and maintenance of community infrastructure and related services

• Maintains and repairs road ways, ditches, curbs and sidewalks
• Responsible for street lighting and traffic signals
• Responsible for sanding, salting and plowing roadways and sidewalks
• Maintains a four-bay Public Works garage and equipment
• Responsible for Airport, Boat Launch ramp, cemeteries, parks, waste diversion, municipal beach, water and sewer

Provides a safe, non-judgemental environment offering a variety of supervised activities for young people assisting them in creating positive friendships and growing up healthy

Offers the following opportunities, but is not limited to:

• Chat time
• Educational workshops
• Guest presentations on current issues
• Homework assistance
• Internet access
• Movie nights
• Peer mentoring
• Sports
• Video games

The program also connects youth with the local community encouraging volunteerism to make a difference in the neighbourhood

Provides a variety of supervised programming for youth, including:

• Electronic games (Wii, X-Box 360)
• Pool, foozball, ping-pong, Bingo and table games
• Computer access and help with homework and resume development
• Thematic presentations
• Special events such as holiday celebrations

• Provides a community Youth Centre
• Offers a Youth Council to promote the youth in the community, act as a voice for the youth, improve communication amongst the youth and serve as a link between the youth and the government of the community
• Coordinates regular activities and events for the youth
• Encourages attendance at area youth workshops and conferences

• Games of all kinds
• Golf tournaments
• Movies (indoor and outdoor)
• Pool tables
• Sports events such as hockey
• Televisions
• Various musical instruments for use

Responsible for the maintenance of all municipal parks, playgrounds, tot lots, and planters

Responsible for planning, developing and implementing social, recreational and special events for community members with a focus on youth through the Brighter Futures Program

Provides regular workshops and daily activities in the following areas:

• Cultural Awareness
• Health and Wellness
• Mental Health and Awareness
• Recreation and Leisure

Activities may include:

• Birthday socials (monthly)
• Board game nights
• Bowling nights, swimming programs and fitness clubs
• Family indoor rock climbing
