Description
Provides educational services and supports to elementary, secondary and post-secondary school students
  • Works directly with administration and staff in relation to the needs of all individual students
  • Supports the work of the different schools student success programs
  • Provides bus transportation for elementary, middle and high school students attending various schools in the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and the Rainbow District School Board
  • Planning underway (May 2019 community sessions) for a new community Education Centre
Secondary Education
  • Provides assistance, guidance and referrals to helps with academic issues
  • Maintains lists of students, addresses and schools attended
  • Acts as the liaison at meetings between school personnel and parents/guardians to address school issues
  • Investigates referrals of all students who have two or more non-excused absences and/or are at risk of losing a credit
  • Assists students with transition from one school to another
  • Provides information on community involvement hours to students about groups looking for volunteer assistance
Post Secondary Education
  • Provides counselling and guidance in choosing post-secondary field of studies
  • Provides assistance for applying/filling out application forms for colleges and universities
Special Education
  • Provides special education assistance for students with learning difficulties
  • Develops Individual Education Plans (IEP) for each student to identify needs
  • Meets with students, parents, teachers and support staff to ensure optimal communication

  • Community is approx 50 km N of Sudbury, near Capreol on NW shores of Wanapitei Lake
  • Consists of 1 main reserve with a land area of approx 10.36 sq km; may increase with the settlement of a pending land claim
  • Reserve is known as Wahnapitae Indian Reserve No 11
  • Completely separate from the community of Wahnapitae which is located on Hwy 17E within the city of Greater Sudbury
  • First Nation name comes from "Wahnapitaeping" which means 'that place where the water is shaped like a molar tooth'
