Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides services through the guidance and partnership with Waubetek Business Development Corporation
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities at office and on website
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Assists with the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
Economic and resource initiatives Wahnapitae First Nation is involved with include but are not limited to:
  • Employment and training representatives on the FNX/WFN Human Resources Committee and the Xstrata Human Resources Committee
  • A signed Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) with Quadra FNX mining company
  • A signed Participation Agreement with Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations for mining industry related activity of Xstrata Nickel in the traditional territory of Wahnapitae First Nation
  • Guidance in the construction of the $4.5 million multi-purpose Centre of Excellence opened in Sept 2012
