Description
Promotes the development of good mental health and provides services for individuals with mental health issues to enrich their quality of life

Provides counselling, information and awareness activities including but not limited to:
  • Abuse and addictions
  • Anger issues
  • Childhood trauma
  • Depression
  • Family violence
  • Grief or loss
  • Loneliness
  • Stress management
Services can include:
  • Advocacy including accompaniment to appointments
  • Aftercare, offered on a voluntary basis for persons returning from treatment centres or abstaining on their own
  • Assessments
  • Counselling services for stress management and crisis intervention
  • Prevention services
  • Referrals to appropriate supports
  • Transportation to attend mental health/addictions appointments
Psychiatric Services are NOT provided by the Mental Health Unit but available through Brian Nootchtai at the North Shore Tribal Council (NSTC), or the East Algoma Mental Health Clinic
Eligibility
Members of Serpent River First Nation 18 years of age and older struggling with mental health issues
Application Process
  • Open to referrals from any source
  • Appointments recommended but walk-ins accepted
