Description
Operates a youth custody and detention facility
  • Provides 24-hour supervison and rehabilitation programs and services to encourage positive lifestyle
  • Arranges family and community involvement as much as possible
  • Facilitates visits with parents and siblings
Services provided are:

Advocacy
  • Assigns a prime worker to each youth who arranges for their needs in areas such as medical, legal and clothing
  • Acts as liaison between youth and parents and agencies
Education
  • Operates 2 classrooms through the Keewatin-Patricia Board of Education
  • Provides class instruction to youth
Medical
  • Arranges a doctor's examination to ensure good health
  • Makes follow-up appointments with specialists, dentists, optometrist and other health professionals as needed
Observation and Evaluation
  • Conducts 24-hour observations and behavioural assessments to determine required needs and best helps for each youth
Recreation
  • Offers a large variety of supervised recreational activities for open-custody youth on the premises and in community
  • Offers activities for secure-custody youth in the outdoor yard of facility or in the multipurpose room

Eligibility
Youth 12-17 years of age in conflict with the law and have been sentenced to either open custody, secure custody or on orders to reside
Application Process
Referrals accepted:
  • Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) or
  • From police with a court order signed by a judge or a Justice of the Peace admitting a youth to detention or custody
