Economic Development

Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Responsible for development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Maintains local business directory
Local economic initiatives/businesses include:
  • Long Lake #58 General Store and Gas Bar
  • Long Lake Aggregates Inc, which manages an aggregates facility that is located less than 2 km from the community
  • Long Lake #58 First Nation Property Management
  • Long Lake #58 First Nation Heavy Equipment
  • Subway, the first on-reserve Subway franchise in Canada
  • Partnership/ownership with several other First Nations of the Landmark Inn in Thunder Bay
  • Nedaakiimenaan Inc, a newly formed partnership consisting of Long Lake #58, Aroland, Constance Lake and Ginoogaming First Nations with a goal of building capacity in the Forest Management of the Kenogami Forest
