Apprenticeship Grants


Description
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant (AIG), a taxable cash grant of $1,000 per year/level, up to a maximum of $2,000 per person, available to registered apprentices once they have successfully finished their first or second year/level (or equivalent) of an apprenticeship program in one of the Red Seal trades
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women (AIG-W), a taxable cash grant of $3,000 per year/level, up to a maximum amount of $6,000 per person, to support women in entering, progressing and completing their training in Red Seal trades where women are underrepresented (*Baker, Cook, Hairstylist, Landscape-Horticulturist, Partsperson not eligible trades)
  • Provides the Apprenticeship Completion Grant (ACG), a taxable cash grant of $2,000 to registered apprentices who have completed their training to help them become certified journeypersons in designated Red Seal Trades, which include:
    • Agricultural Equipment Technician
    • Appliance Service Technician
    • Auto Body and Collision Technician
    • Automotive Refinishing Technician
    • Automotive Service Technician
    • Baker (not eligible for AIG-W)
    • Boilermaker
    • Bricklayer
    • Cabinetmaker
    • Carpenter
    • Concrete Finisher
    • Construction Craft Worker
    • Construction Electrician

Eligibility
Apprenticeship Incentive Grant
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a Protected Person
  • Must be registered in or have completed an apprenticeship program in a trade that is designated as a Red Seal trade
  • Eligibility for Level 1 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 12 months
  • Eligibility for Level 2 grant: must have been registered as an apprentice for at least 24 months

Apprenticeship Incentive Grant for Women
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a Protected Person
  • Must not be a high school student
  • Must be registered in or have completed an apprenticeship program in a trade that is designated as a Red Seal trade, except for the following:
    • Baker
    • Cook
    • Hairstylist
    • Landscape-Horticulturist
    • Partsperson

  • Must provide proof that either the first or second year or level has been completed on or after April 1, 2018
  • Must self-identify as a woman

Note: Women apprentices who have progressed in their apprenticeship training on or after April 1, 2018 and received the AIG in a trade that is eligible for the AIG-W may be eligible to receive the difference between the AIG-W and the AIG payment (which consists of an additional $2,000); if this applies, submit an online application for the AIG-W in order to be assessed for eligibility
