Description
  • Ensures a guaranteed minimum income for Ontario seniors
  • Provides monthly payments to qualifying seniors in addition to their Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) payments

Benefits are based on information the Ministry receives from Employment and Social Development Canada and information on an individual's income tax return.Individuals who want to set up direct deposit for their GAINS payment can call Service Canada at 1-800-277-9914 (press 0 to speak with an agent), or do so on the website
Eligibility
Individuals must:
  • Be a resident of Ontario
  • Receive the federal Old Age Security (OAS) and federal Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS) payments
  • Have lived in Ontario for the past 12 months, or for a total of 20 years since turning 18
  • Have 10 or more years of Canadian residency
  • Have a total income from all sources that is below the level guaranteed by the province


Age Requirements: Ages: 65 year(s) and up;

  • If an individual meets the eligibility requirements, benefits will be determined automatically
