Description
  • Provides short-term in-home and out-of-home relief to families with children with complex medical needs, physical disabilities and/or developmental delays
  • Enables families or primary caregivers to rest, attend to personal needs, or participate in outside activities
  • Offers a work registry to assist families in recruiting a service provider
In Home Respite
  • Provides planned respite care in the child's home
  • Provides short notice and emergency respite when possible
Out of Home Respite
  • Provides respite services outside the family home
  • Offers children the opportunity to develop social, recreational and life skills

Eligibility
  • Children with multiple disabilities including physical, communication and developmental disabilities such as cerebral palsy, acquired brain injury, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, cleft lip/palate and autism spectrum disorders

In Home Respite
  • Families of a child/youth up to 21 years of age with a physical disability living in the city of Sault Ste Marie

Out of Home Respite
  • Families of a child/youth up to 18 years of age with multiple special needs, a developmental disability or a physical disability living in the Algoma District
Application Process
  • Parents/guardians responsible for choosing an Independent Service provider for respite care; registry info on website
  • Respite invoices can be emailed to: respite@kidsthrive.ca
