Description
Offer free counselling services to help deaf individuals improve communication with family and friends, stay involved in social activities, and remain safe and independent at home

Communication Devices
Provides information, demonstration and assistance with:
  • Assistive Listening technology such as Personal FM and Infrared systems
  • Specialized telephones such as amplified, Voice Carry Over (VCO) and TTYs
  • Alerting devices such as fire/smoke, doorbell, phone, baby cry

Education
Offers education and training to consumers, family members, caregivers and the general public

Training can include:
  • Family support and communication training
  • Hearing Health Care Clinics
  • Hearing Help Classes
  • Speech Reading Classes
  • In-Service Training
  • Presentations/Community displays
  • Self-help and support groups

Home Visits
Provides individual and family counselling in individual's home

Counsels on issues related to coping with hearing loss such as:
  • Understanding your hearing loss
  • Use, care and maintenance of hearing aids and other listening systems
  • Managing difficult listening situations
  • Selecting specialized communication equipment, such as telephones, alarm clocks, television accessories
  • Referrals to other community services
Eligibility
Communication Devices Individuals who are deaf, deafened or hard of hearing
Education Open to all
Home Visits
  • Priority is given to individuals 55 years of age or older having trouble adapting to hearing loss
  • Individuals under the age of 55 with other disabilities as well as hearing loss, requiring home-based services are also eligible


Age Requirements: Ages: 55 year(s) and up;

Residency Requirements: North to Hornepayne and East to Thessalon
