Description
Offers private secondary education for Indigenous and non-Indigenous students to help them complete credits towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
  • Offers a variety of course delivery methods
  • Offers courses in Anishinaabemowin and promotes a sense of pride of heritage
  • Provides supervised extra-curricular activities and outdoor education courses
  • Coordinates a co-operative education program during summer months for students interested in earning one or two credits through a summer work placement
  • Participates in the Ontario Secondary Student Literacy Test (OSSLT) program
Modes of course delivery include the following:

Instructor Led Course Credits
  • Offers various course selections based on student course requirements
  • All instructor led courses are approved and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education for students from Grades 9-12
  • Supports Anishinaabe education through the provision of program choices such as the Shki-Nesewin program with a focus on Indigenous content
  • Also offers a Blended Learning Model using the provincial learning management system (LMS) to teach in a face-to-face class
Independent Learning Centre (ILC) Courses
  • Supervises individual, independent learning courses for students to complete at own pace through distance education
  • All courses are approved and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education
  • Provides guidance and support as students complete assignments in course journals or e-journals
Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS) Delivery
  • Works in partnership with KiHS who provides an online secondary school program through Internet and other communication technologies
  • All courses are approved and inspected by the Ontario Ministry of Education
  • An instructor teaches one subject to all students online
  • A trained teacher/mentor provides assistance in the KTEI classroom
  • Program is semestered and provides up to eight credits per year
Outdoor Education Credits and Course Delivery with Manitoulin Secondary School (MSS)
  • Works in partnership with the Rainbow District School Board to offer an outdoor education program with KTEI as the host location
  • Both Kenjgewin Teg Secondary School and and MSS offer a four-credit program which allows students to participate in learning and practising basic outdoor/survival skills with the opportunity to obtain certification for skill development
Eligibility
Members of the participating First Nation communities and residents of the Manitoulin Island/North Shore area wishing to earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD)
Application Process
  • Required to complete a Student Intake Form (SIF)
  • Must provide consent for release of any transcript history from a previous school
  • Must participate in an informal interview
