Whitefish River First Nation
Housing Department

  • Addresses and acts upon all housing issues and related requests through a housing committee
  • Ensures that housing issues are effectively managed

Offers the following services:
  • Provides recommendations and changes to the housing policy
  • Receives and reviews applications at Council meetings for renovations, new housing units, housing loans and housing renovation loans
  • Liaises with Band Manager and Chief and Council on all construction projects and future developments
  • Reviews rents to ensure payments are made
  • Arranges inspections of rental units and community houses for maintenance, repairs and renovations
  • Ensures proper housing standards are enforced and inspections are completed
  • Carries out annual maintenance and repairs on behalf of tenants
  • Works closely with Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp (CMHC)
  • Maintains a comprehensive database on all community housing units that includes information such as what programs were accessed for building and repairs, loans outstanding, services (water, sewer, roads) available, inspection reports, condition of unit, year it was built and other unit particulars
  • Enforces all tenant agreements and explains agreement responsibilities

Matrimonial Real Property (MRP) Law
  • Upholds rules and procedures of the Whitefish River First Nation (WRFN) MRP Law for division of matrimonial property resulting from the breakdown of a marriage or common-law relationship when at least one of the spouses is a citizen of WRFN
  • Applied only when domestic contracts and mediation have been used as first resorts
  • Works in the best interests of children involved, maintains each citizen's right to reside on reserve and hold property, and is fair to both spouses
