Description
Provides alternative education for adult community members to obtain a high school diploma

Program objectives are as follows:
  • Enable students to obtain secondary school credit courses in their home community
  • Provide an alternative way to earn a provincial high school diploma (Ontario Secondary School Diploma OSSD)
  • Promote First Nations culture
Program offers:
  • A wide range of course selection delivered through Independent Learning Courses (ILCs), the Cooperative Education (Co-op) Program, Basic Skills upgrading, life skills and field trips
  • Academic counselling and referrals to appropriate agencies as needed
  • Participation in the mandatory Ontario Secondary Student Literacy Test (OSSLT) program
Student services can include:
  • All necessary school supplies
  • Counselling for post-secondary education planning
  • Individual career planning with Ontario Works representative
  • Transportation for any student living out of a reasonable walking range to program through Ontario Works
  • Subsidized childcare, only for the hours a student is in school through Ontario Works
Eligibility
  • Members of Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve wishing to obtain an Ontario Secondary School diploma (OSSD) and/or upgrade education
  • Student must be 22 years of age or older to register and have been out of school for a minimum of 6 months
