Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides services through guidance and partnership with Waubetek Business Development Corporation
  • Offers business development services to 67 community businesses offering a range of products and services
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development
  • Offers guidance and assistance in obtaining financial support for self-employment initiatives
  • Maintains updated statistics regarding population trends, employment, skills and the community profile
  • Conducts proposal development for short and long-term community infrastructure projects and employment programs
  • Hosts Economic Awareness Days each year as a means to bring a greater transparency to the work of the economic development organization
  • Participates in ownership of the Manitoulin Island Hotel & Conference Centre with five other First Nations and the Great Spirit Circle Trail (GSCT), a Manitoulin-based business that offers experiential tourism packages to people who want to experience First Nations culture

  • Wii-ni n'guch-tood Local Delivery Mechanism
Wikwemikong Communications Services
  • Manages the Wikwemikong Newspaper which services Manitoulin Island
  • Supports First Tel which offers local and long distance telephone service
  • Operates Wiky TV 5 Professional Video Productions
