Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Facilitates economic development strategic planning sessions

Economic initiatives Wabaseemoong Independent Nation (WIN) is involved with include:
  • Wincrief Forest Products (opened in 2009), a joint venture between WIN and Moncrief Construction that builds modular homes from a year-round plant located near Kenora
  • Utility pole peeling facility (Nov 2012) located on former paper mill property in Kenora; a joint venture between WIN and Moncrief
  • Participant of Miitigoog LP, a shareholder-managed Sustainable Forest License (SFL) signed with government of Ontario, Weyerhauser Co Ltd, several other First Nations and several forest companies and contractors, which gives Miitigoog LP the responsibility for all forest management aspects of the Kenora Forest
