Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members
Economic initiatives Wunnumin Lake First Nation is involved with include:
  • Advisory capacity for Northern Store
  • Assistance and advisory services for private businesses which include Laundromat, Chee-kee-sis Petro Inc (sells fuel and gasoline to community), Accommodation Building (motel), and a Coffee Shop
  • Partnership with 11 other First Nation communities in the Wasaya Group Inc (WGI), who own several businesses including Wasaya Airways LP
  • KW Enterprises in partnership with Kingfisher Lake to provide transportation for Musselwhite employees using Wasaya Airwayswith Musslewhite Mine
  • Impact Benefit Agreement (IBA) 
  • Joint ownership of Wataynikaneyap Power with 23 other First Nations and Goldcorps, to reinforce transmission lines to Pickle Lake and Musselwhite Mine and to construct new transmission lines north of Pickle Lake to service remote First Nation communities
  • Joint ownership of the Ramada Inn (former Landmark Inn), Thunder Bay, with 2 other First Nation communities
  • Collaboration with community groups for renovations to Wanapetum Memorial Health Centre to add 1100 sq meters of additional space as of May 2019
