Shibogama First Nations Council
First Nations Council

Serves as a non-political, regional Chiefs Council which provides support services to 5 First Nation communities
  • Provides governance, political support, technical advisory, community development support and advocacy to member First Nations in their quest to build self-sufficient communities
  • Promotes Aboriginal recognition and cultural awareness of the member First Nations
  • Consists of Chiefs and representatives from each community
  • Delivers programs and services through local community government
  • Participates in and co-hosts the annual Northern Ontario First Nations Environment Conference (NOFNEC) with several other Tribal Councils

Provides technical and professional advisory services and programs in the following areas:
  • Administration and Finance
  • Shibogama Education
  • Shibogama Education, Student Support Services
  • Shibogama Health Authority
  • Shibogama Health Authority, Nursing Program
  • Shibogama Health Authority, Patient Liaison Services
  • Shibogama Health Authority, Payahtakenemowin
  • Technical Services
  • Technical Services, Architectural CAD Design and Engineering Applications
  • Technical Services, Contract Administration
  • Technical Services, Environmental Services
  • Technical Services, Housing
  • Technical Services, Operations and Maintenance
Shibogama Tribal Council is a member of the Political Territorial Organization of Nishnawbe-Aski Nation (NAN) All member communities belong to Treaty #9Shibogama serves a collective on-reserve population of 2,761 individuals (as of 2017); 2,800 individuals (as of Oct 2018)
Must belong to one of the member First Nations within the Shibogama First Nations Council territory
