Secondary Student Services Program


Description
Provides assistance and support to First Nations students attending high school away from their home community
  • Provides case management services for each student
  • Provides social and spiritual support
  • Encourages academic achievement
  • Offers individual counselling in areas students might be struggling with such as homesickness and socialization issues
Boarding Home Program
  • Coordinates arrangements to place students attending high school in Thunder Bay with a suitable boarding home
  • Provides online applications for: families willing to become host boarding homes and students requiring a boarding placement
  • Provides a Boarding Home Guidebook for both students and hosts
  • Pays an allowance every 2 weeks to boarding parents
Eligibility
First Nations students from any of the 24 First Nations communities within the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council and the Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) attending provincial high school in Ontario and Winnipeg
