Violence Intervention and Prevention Program


Description
Provides 24-hour victim support services to adults experiencing immediate, intimate partner violence and sexual assault

These services include:
  • Community liaison
  • Court testimony
  • Forensic documentation and photography
  • Individual or group counselling
  • Medical assessment and treatment
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Safety planning and risk assessment
  • Sexually Transmitted Infection assessment and treatment
Comments
At the Emergency Department, the VIPP nurse will respond within 30-45 minutes to meet with the individual to discuss treatment and forensic options. Assessment is confidential.
Eligibility
  • Individuals 16 years of age and older
  • The time between the actual incident and presenting to the program should be less than 72 hours
Application Process
  • No referral required
  • Individuals who have experienced violence and require services may present at the Emergency Department and ask for the VIPP Nurse to be paged
  • Individuals seeking counselling services are advised to contact the program directly for information
