Description
  • Provides assessment of driving skills
  • Evaluates the physical, cognitive and perceptual abilities in relation to driving
  • Provides a detailed report to referring physician, the Ministry of Transportation Driver Review Medical Section and the client
  • Recommendations may include license reinstatement, suspension or a course of Driver Rehabilitation

Offers a review of general driving knowledge and judgment includes
  • A three to four hour assessment using objective tests
  • A one hour in-car assessment, when appropriate, with both a Certified Driving Instructor and the assessing Occupational Therapist
  • Assessments can include prescription of assistive technology related to driving including hand-controlled brake and accelerator, spinner knob or left gas pedal converter
Comments
Once referred, individuals will receive a comprehensive in-clinic assessment from an Occupational Therapist (OT), followed by an on-road evaluation with both the OT and a certified driving instructor. This assessment is done to determine whether or not an individual is a candidate to maintain driving privileges.
Eligibility
  • Individuals who have had a medical condition, an accident, or an illness which may impair their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
  • Individuals who have been directed by their physician or the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) to undergo a driving evaluation

  • An individual can refer themselves, but the form must be filled out by their physician
  • Completed forms can be faxed to the office
