Shkagamik-Kwe Health Centre
Child Life Program & Child and Youth Program

  • Provides programs and services to support children, youth and their families
  • Offers referrals to external agencies as required

Child and Youth Program
  • Works one on one with children and youth to address specific issues that are affecting them such as obesity, bullying or school struggles
  • Runs a pre-school check-up clinic during the summer for children who will be starting Kindergarten that September; includes general health and development assessment, immunization update, and dental, vision and FASD screening
  • Provides accompaniment for children and their family during medical visits if desired

Child Life Program
Provides access to a Child Life Specialist who works specifically in health care settings and can provide:
  • Accompaniment to regular clinic appointments
  • Preparation for medical procedures
  • Explanation and support of health diagnoses
  • Grief and bereavement support
  • Coordination of play time and therapy through art projects
Hours of Operation
Mon-Fri 8:30 am-12 noon, 1 pm-4:30 pm
Indigenous children and youth under the age of 18 years

Application Process
  • Call to make arrangements for Child Life Specialist (CLS) consultations and services
  • Children and youth encouraged to drop-in with concerns, work on art or homework or to play a game
