Lands Department

Represents the community in all lands and related issues
  • Oversees the Land Code, currently under development, which will give full responsibility to Wasauksing First Nation (WFN) for their own land management
  • Liaises with all companies undertaking resource development in traditional WFN territory including mining developments, forestry projects and hydro electric power projects
  • Participates in negotiations and agreements with resource developers to ensure WFN is fairly included in benefits
  • Develops and implements a consultation protocol for negotiations related to Lands and Resource issues
  • Advises community members on any Lands issues via meetings, website or correspondence
  • Provides guidance in the development of Land Use Plans for the community
  • Acts as a liaison between local trappers and the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)
  • Liaises with Wasauksing Lands Incorporated (WLI), an entity created to manage and control properties that are leased to cottagers to generate economic benefits for Wasauksing
