Description
Responsible for developing economic initiatives and opportunities as well as managing the economic interests for the community
  • Strives to build a strategic network of partners and the necessary infrastructure to attract and develop sustainable business opportunities
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills of members
  • Assists with proposal development for short and long-term community development projects
  • Maintains website updates with overall community events
  • Posts employment opportunities in office
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Participates as a member of Waaskiinaysay Ziibi Inc, an economic development corporation made up of 5 Lake Nipigon First Nations

Economic initiatives and business ventures Papasay Management Corp is involved with on behalf of Bingwi Neyaashi Anisihinaabek (BNA) include:
  • Creation of an Industrial Park on BNA reserve land along Hwy 11 (under construction)
  • Papasay Value Added Wood Products (PVAWP), a sawmill in development and construction stages located in the Industrial Park
  • Ownership of Patten Lands, a 31-acre aggregate site (gravel pit) just N of the community which will help diminish the cost of building materials for development
  • Partnership with Animbiigoo Zaagi ìgan Anishinaabek First Nation to form the Wawasum Group Ltd, a wood pellet plant to be located in BNA`s industrial park; have already been awarded a 10-year wood allocation (113,000 cu metres of birch and poplar)
  • Partnership with 3 other First Nations in Lake Nipigon Forest Management Inc. (LNFMI) which has the only First Nation-run Sustainable Forestry License (SFL) in the province; BNA manages almost one million hectares of forestlands in the Lake Nipigon forest region
  • Partnership with Rocktech on the development of a lithium mine with an expected life span of 25 years
  • Collaboration with Ont Power Generation (OPG) and 5 other First Nations on the Little Jackfish River hydroelectric development
  • Hydroelectric project on the Namewaminikan River with 2 other First Nations
  • Development (in planning stages) of a 5-star Eco-tourism lodge called The Copper Thunderbird
  • Feasibility of wind generation parks, both on and off-reserve
  • Lake front cottage lot development on reserve lands
  • Construction of a long-term care Elders facility
