Ontario Renovates Program

  • Offers financial assistance to low to moderate income homeowners who need to make repairs to their homes
  • Assists homeowners with repairs, including accessibility, health and safety issues, and energy efficiency in the form of an interest-free forgivable loan
  • Aimed at moderate income home owners who live in substandard dwellings and cannot afford the repairs that are necessary to make their home safer and healthier to live in and/or to make improvements that increase seniors' accessibility and address mobility issues
Hours of Operation
Mon-Fri 8 am-4 pm; Closed 12 noon-1 pm
  • Households must be sub-standard or deficient and
  • Require repairs that bring them up to a reasonable standard

Eligible repairs may be in one or more of the following:
  • Structural
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Heating
  • Fire safety
  • Septic systems and well water
  • Improved accessibility for persons with disabilities
  • Safety-related features that support seniors ability to remain in their home
Application Process

  • Maximum amount of assistance is $25,000.00 but higher amounts may be available
  • Individual may earn grant/loan forgiveness at a rate of 10% per year for 10 years; loan forgiveness will be earned in equal monthly installments over a period of ten years
  • To earn forgiveness, individual must maintain continued ownership and occupancy of the dwelling and adhere to all other terms and conditions of the program
  • If individual sells or vacates the home, he/she is responsible for paying back any outstanding loan amount
  • An eligible new buyer may choose to take on the conditions of the loan in order for the home to remain affordable
