Description
Responsible for fire prevention and administration of the Ontario Fire Code
  • Participates in a multi-year service agreement to receive fire suppression and emergency services from the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department; includes annual maintenance on the fire equipment and fire truck as well as annual flushing of hydrants and the distribution system
  • Issues applicable burn permits required for brush piles, incinerators and open fires, excluding campfires
  • Provides services to elderly and disabled community members such as chimney cleaning and installation of carbon/smoke detectors
  • Maintains a community fire hall
Provides the following services:
  • Education
  • Emergency planning
  • Fire investigation
  • Fire suppression
  • Hazardous materials information
  • Home safety which includes ensuring all homes are equipped (and annually inspected) with smoke alarms and charged fire extinguishers
  • Response to mishaps/accidents in Michipicoten First Nation territory
