Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members

Economic initiatives Fort William First Nation is involved with include:
  • Community-owned and operated aggregate pit and crushing operation which employs approx 29 Band members
  • Partners with Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund to host an Annual Mining and Economic Development Conference
  • Pending construction of $1.5 million training school with classrooms, simulators and various pieces of heavy equipment
  • Development of a 5-year community-driven Economic Development Plan (for time period of Apr 1/14 - Mar 31/19)
  • Assistance with business plan development for a community-owned business called Ozhichiige Construction Company
