Algoma Foster Family Association

Provides a voice for foster parents and advocates for the needs of the foster families and foster children in association with the Children's Aid Society of Algoma

  • Connects foster parents with one another in order to share experiences in both parenting and foster parenting
  • Serves as a support system and forum for foster families to discuss issues of common concern
  • Provides a collective voice on issues of importance
  • Serves as an information source to foster parents using resources gained through a variety of sources

Advocacy Program
  • Aids in recruitment and retention of foster homes by being an effective and vital means of support
  • A partnership between the Algoma Foster Family Association and the Children's Aid Society of Algoma
  • Provides unbiased emotional support and guidance through the process of investigations and meetings
  • Provides information, encouragement and guidance to foster families who may have a service complaint issue, are under investigation or require support dealing with other matters with the society
  • Advocates are experienced foster parents who has demonstrated a strong commitment to, and represents the best interests of the fostering community

Advocates are trained in:
  • Assisting families who are dealing with allegations
  • Conflict resolution
  • Policies, procedures and structure of the Children's Aid Society of Algoma
