Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office and on website
  • Works to access funding for band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members

Economic initiatives Pays Plat First Nation is involved with include:
  • A 3-year agreement (2013-2016) with AV Terrace Bay (pulp mill) to supply wood from the Kenogami Forest to the mill
  • Joint ownership of Wataynikaneyap Power with 17 other First Nations and Goldcorps, to reinforce transmission lines to Pickle Lake and Musselwhite Mine and to construct new transmission lines north of Pickle Lake to service remote First Nation communities
  • Pursuing the development of a 10 MW generating station with Pic River First Nation
  • Provides representation on the Ontario First Nations Economic Developers Association (OFNEDA)
  • A partnership with five other First Nations in a job training initiative for Indigenous people with SuperCom Industries LP, which supports training to help prepare for construction employment opportunities with the East-West Tie Transmission Project-a 230 kilovolt transmission line connecting Wawa Transmission Station to the Lakehead Transmission Station near Thunder Bay
