  • Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members

Economic initiatives Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation is involved with include:
  • Partnership with City of Kenora to explore development and possible ventures for Tunnel Island and Old Fort Island
  • Participant of Miitigoog LP, a shareholder-managed Sustainable Forest License (SFL) signed with government of Ontario, Weyerhauser Co Ltd, several other First Nations and several forest companies and contractors, which gives Miitigoog LP the responsibility for all forest management aspects of the Kenora Forest
  • Pursuing the establishment of a Geographic Information System (GIS) database; already trained 5 individuals on the collection of GIS mapping data
  • Construction of the Economic Development Centre of Excellence, with help from a $1 million dollar investment as announced Sept 2018 by Kenora Rainy-River MPP and Minister of Energy, Northern Development and Mines, and Minister of Indigenous Affairs Greg Rickford
