Description
Responsible for stimulating local economy and developing economic initiatives and opportunities for the community
  • Provides information, training and educational workshops to enhance employability skills
  • Posts employment opportunities in office
  • Works to access funding for Band-owned business ventures
  • Provides coaching in areas such as business plan development and assistance in obtaining financial support for people wanting to start own business
  • Hosts economic development strategic planning sessions
  • Maintains local business directory
  • Assists in the development of plans for the use of traditional lands for community members

Economic initiatives Sachigo Lake First Nation is involved with include:
  • Assistance and business advisory for private businesses
  • Advisory capacity for construction of business complex centre in community, FedNor funding assistance announced Nov 2012 with completion date of Jun 2013; centre will house Administration and Council, Economic Development, Health and Social Services, Tikinagan Child & Family Services, a 4-suite hotel, restaurant and the post office
  • Joint ownership of Wataynikaneyap Power with 21 other First Nations and Goldcorps, to reinforce transmission lines to Pickle Lake and Musselwhite Mine and to construct new transmission lines north of Pickle Lake to service remote First Nation communities
  • A signed business partnership (2014) with North Star Air Ltd along with its affiliate Cargo North
  • Letter of Understanding with North Star Air which allows for revenue sharing between the airline and community with a goal to generate short and long term socio-economic development opportunities, gain financial benefits back to the community and provide increased air transportation services and options to community members
  • Partnership with SkyPower in the development of a multitude of utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects (solar parks) in Ontario
