- Responsible for fire prevention and administration of the Ontario Fire Code
- Issues applicable burn permits required for brush piles, incinerators and open fires, excluding campfires
- Provides fire safety and prevention education
- Participates as a member of the Manitoulin Sector of Emergency Management Ontario to respond to local emergencies that may include severe storms, floods, fires, train derailments etc
