Description
Functions as the governing office for the community; oversees all community programs, services and facilities

Activities and services for community members also include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ontario First Nation Policing arrangements provided by UCCM Anishnaabe Police Service, headquarters in M'Chigeeng, ph: 705-377-7135 fx: 705-377-5583
  • Child & Family Protection Services (Prevention services delivered directly by community) provided by Kina Gbezhgomi Child & Family Services, head office in Wikwemikong First Nation
  • Participation towards building a green economy by installing solar panels on the roofs of the community complex, Lakeview school and Band administration offices
  • Provides the M'Chigeeng Community Complex which houses a gathering place, an arena and post office
  • Runs a local radio station, CHYF-FM, which is wholly devoted to recovery and preservation of the Ojibwe language
  • Hosts an annual M'Chigeeng Traditional Pow Wow on Labour Day weekend
  • Holds an Annual Naming Ceremony for member's infants/children to receive their Anishnaabe Name and Colors
  • Home to the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation which represents 60 First Nation communities in efforts to preserve Native heritage, customs and language
  • Serviced by air through Gore Bay-Manitoulin Airport (37 km) and Manitoulin East Municipal Airport (57 km)
  • Provides an elders centre called Anishnaabemowin Gamig Learning Centre
  • Administers Lakeview Elementary School for students from JK-Grade 6 and provides education services to all other students attending schools outside the community; also administers M'Chigeeng Binoojiinh Gamgoonhs Daycare Centre
  • Provides health care, a walk-in clinic and health programs at the Health Centre, M'nendamowin Health Services
  • Offers a Training & Employment Hub Centre
  • Provides a Volunteer Fire Department
  • M'Chigeeng means village enclosed by stepped cliffs in Ojibwe
  • Community is the center for many other Manitoulin Island services including: Mnidoo Mnising Employment & Training, Kina Gbezhgomi Child & Family Services, Mnaamodzowin Health Services, Noojmowin Teg Health Centre, UCCM Tribal Police and Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute
