Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the First Nation
  • Offers a Northern Store and Warehouse, and the M Koostachin & Sons retail store
  • Provides a family-operated Kataquapit Inn and April's Coffee Shop
  • Operates Canada Post postal services; mail is delivered 5 days per week
  • Offers ambulance services through James Bay Ambulance Service located in community
  • Offers a resource centre with computers for Internet access
  • Provides worship services at St Ignatius Catholic Church and 2 Pentecostal churches
  • Serviced by scheduled and charter flights by Wasaya Airways, Air Creebec and Thunder Airlines through the Attawapiskat Airport located adjacent to the community; maintained and serviced by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario
  • Operates a community radio station and local television cable services
  • Hosts an annual Traditional Pow Wow, usually in August
  • Participates in the Junior Canadian Rangers Program for youth (12-18 years) which teaches various skills including but not limited to first aid, using rifles safely, hunting and fishing, Native customs and traditions, healthy living, staying in school and drug and alcohol abuse awareness

  • Community only accessible by air through Attawapiskat Airport year-round or ice road during winter months
  • Consists of two areas, Attawapiskat 91 and 91A (main reserve) with a combined land area of approx 273 sq km
  • Attawapiskat is a dry community and ALL arriving passengers at airport and via winter road undergo a luggage check for alcohol and/or illegal substances
  • Nearest urban centre is Timmins, 500 km S of Attawapiskat
  • More than a third of the members of the Attawapiskat First Nation who still live on their home reserve are under the age of 19; three-quarters of them are under the age of 35
  • Employment provided for over 100 residents at the nearby (90 km W of community) De Beers Victor Diamond Miine
