Description
Represents the community in all lands and resources initiatives
  • Liaises with all companies undertaking resource development in traditional Lac Seul First Nation territory including mining developments, forestry projects and hydro electric power projects
  • Participates in negotiations and agreements with resource developers and governments to ensure Lac Seul First Nation traditional lands and burial sites are protected
  • Works with the Housing Department for allocation of land to community registered members who wish to build a home or cabin on territorial land

Initiatives Obishiikokaang Lands & Resources are/have been involved with include:
  • On-going agreements and negotiations with several mining companies including Goldcorp Inc (Red Lake Gold Mines), Rubicon Minerals Corp and AurCrest Gold Inc
  • Administration of Lac Seul territory traplines and provision of trapping support/training programs for Obishikokaang commercial trappers
  • Caribou surveys in conjunction with the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)
