Operates a self government and is responsible for the day to day operations of the First Nation

  • Accessible by float and ski-equipped aircarft only; no winter/ice roads but individuals can snowshoe or snowmobile into community off ice roads that connect Red Lake to North Spirit Lake
  • Band Office is located at Keewaytinook Okimakanak headquarters in Red Lake
  • Jul 27, 2015 - McDowell Lake Chief, Council and members celebrated official opening of the 10 kW solar system installed on the new Band Office under construction on McDowell Lake land; the system which includes a battery solution generates enough electricity to power a community fridge and freezer and lights and electrical outlets in the Band Office and is the first source of electricity in the new community
  • McDowell Lake is known in the Oji-Cree language as Mishi Sakahikaniing (Big Lake)
